Spring Garden Series: Sculptural Bird Baths + Deer Bowls
Welcome the start of spring by creating a functional ceramic focal point for your garden. In this 4-week course, you’ll design and build your own bird bath or deer bowl, blending functionality with sculptural storytelling.
Using hand-building techniques, you’ll learn how to thoughtfully construct a sturdy outdoor form while incorporating texture, surface detail, and sculptural elements that reflect your personal aesthetic. We’ll explore how design decisions — from rim shape to pedestal structure — influence both function and visual impact.
During the glazing portion of the course, you’ll learn how to make intentional color choices and apply glaze in a way that enhances texture and supports your piece’s narrative in the landscape.
This class is beginner-friendly and welcoming to all experience levels.

4-week course
Mondays: 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, and 4/13 from 9:30-12:30
3 hours per session
Includes 5-7 lbs of clay (for one piece)
Studio tools + standard glaze palette provided
Open studio access during your 4-week course
Create something lasting for your garden — a piece that will hold water, welcome wildlife, and mark the turning of the season.

If I need to miss a class due to illness, I will schedule a make-up session.
If you need to miss a class, you are welcome to attend open studio hours for additional practice. Open studio is uninstructed time where you can continue working on what you’ve learned.
