In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the creative possibilities of working with colored clay bodies. We’ll start by discussing which clays are best suited for colorants and how to safely and effectively mix stains or oxides directly into the clay to create a rich palette of hues. You’ll learn how to prepare colored clay from scratch, including tips for achieving even distribution and storing your batches for future use. Then we’ll move into forming techniques—such as layering, marbling, nerikomi, and inlay—to highlight the natural beauty of the color within the clay itself. By the end of the session, each participant will create a unique piece using their own custom-colored clay bodies, gaining both technical knowledge and inspiration to continue experimenting in their own studios.
